you've been! Best regards, L.S." "I got my package and everything fits…good call on tee!! I really like the mauve salal tank, too. And thanks for the market bag…I will definitely use it! I really like this one because it is large but lightweight. I usually keep a canvas bag folded in the pocket of my diaper bag when I’m out shopping, but all of the bags I have now are bulky so this one will be perfect." K.W.

The footprint of shopping
Buying local products makes natively sense since it supports the neighbors. Shopping Fair Trade gives a chance to people far away without much voice otherwise. Purchasing online ships products straight to your home, often the most direct line from manufacturer to consumer. How do you like to shop? What does it mean responsible shopping? In my book, the importance is in all aspects and not locking into one factor only. Building communities by shopping, eating locally, increasing foot / bike traffic builds values our society needs so much, not measured financially. Having fun with friends or Mom browsing stores created many lasting memories. Purchasing online in 10 minutes instead of hours saves time to spend them with loved ones. There just might be no one answer. What about the lifestyle, habits, distance or weather... Collin Dunn, Corvallis, OR wrote an interesting analysis of our shopping habits titled "Online Shopping vs. Driving to the Mall: The Greener Way to Buy". You can read in full in here - worth the time! April 2008
It is the best time to share your vision for health of our Mother Earth. With issues like global warming, energy and more, let's don't forget about real basics - ability to grow, use and pass on to our children food, water and basic products without toxins dangerous to health, unknown consequences of genetically modified organisms, products made with un-sustainable practices. We have come long way in just one or two generations in both - destruction of environment and growing awareness and protection of it.
Which one will win?
Improving security of food? HR 875 There has been a lot controversies printed, posted and exchanged on new bill on food safety regulations, HR 875. Some of the information passed on was not correct, creating quite a lot of emotions! It is understandable, though, that a regulation capable affecting our organic farming and organic food supplies, is and should be of the utmost importance to us. Organic Consumer Association (OCA), a trustworthy source says this: "HR 875 is a food safety bill that, as it is currently drafted, could be applied to all farms, including certified organic and farm-to-consumer operations. The bill would require farms to have a food safety plan, allow their records to be inspected, and comply with food safety regulations. For the record, Organic Consumers Association does have an alert on HR 875. As OCA points out in our Action Alert, we cannot support a "food safety" bill unless it provides protection or exemptions for organic and farm-to-consumer producers and cracks down on the real corporate criminals who are tampering with and polluting our nation's food supply." Please, keep an eye on this bill and read more info www.organicconsumers.org. You can also find the whole text of the bill at www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h875/text. It affects dearly each one of us.

Is your T-shirt organic? And if not, should you care?
Organic veggies, organic cookies, do you really need organic tee shirts, jeans or bed sheets?
It is because you can spare our planet pounds of
chemicals, avoid toxins for yourself and push the karma of this unbalanced
world an inch in a better direction. An inch is an inch... The lack of sustainable agriculture harms significantly our environment. Cotton is one of the most polluted crops on earth, perhaps due to a wrong perception as a non-food crop, causing a significant risk to our freshwater. Picture these numbers: cotton uses 24% of the global insecticides market but at the same time, its acreage amounts to only 2.4% of the world's cultivated land. Well... It is obvious that the pesticide use for cotton way too much, and on top of that, all nine pesticides used on cotton in the U.S. are classified by the U.S. EPA as Category I and II- the most dangerous chemicals. What does this mean for You? If you love wearing your favorite T-shirt and pair of jeans, as we do, you have to live with the fact that it took a lot of chemicals, many of them carcinogenic (cancer creating) to create them.
We think, that you do know the answer. The solution is NOT a better pesticide and GMO plants, but crops without poisons and chemicals. Organic production that maintains and regenerates soil fertility without the persistent use of chemicals, toxins, pesticides, fertilizers or GM seeds or sprays. That is not enough, though. Processing of fibers has to be a systems that breaks down the fibers without harsh chemicals, for example utilizing enzymes instead of formaldehyde and similar toxins. Goodbye, wrinkle free shirts! Hello: hemp and linen, bamboo and soy fabrics! They are sustainable and have fibers with great qualities: breathable, some, like hemp naturally deter bacteria (and so body odor - hello: socks and T-shirts!), very durable. Bamboo and soy blends are incredibly soft and pleasant to the skin. The tubular structure of hemp and bamboo allows them to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Most importantly, they are safe for the skin, your body largest organ. Personally, we investigated for years possible causes of skin and health problems for our children and ourselves. We don't make any health claims, but for our family changes like moving to rural area, growing organics and wearing organic clothing, definitely work. We also love helping others to understand and access more choices as well. The end of December has a special value for me which no other month can offer. It provides a neat, convenient closure to any failed ideas and actions, failed (for mysterious reasons...) or I plain not pushed through. It also closes the accomplishments and lucky strikes. It stares you in a face and asks "OK, so what is next?" Happiness probably is just that: striving and pushing forward. As an architect at heart, I do like planning. Planning is bit like dreaming, you can picture whatever you want and nobody can say "Hey, does this make sense?" Who cares! You don't have to show it or explain it. It's for You. There are few pitfalls, where plans did not breath much life past conception. First: your dreams/plans don't have to be spoken but they have to start their existence in the outside world somehow, even if on a paper napkin. They have to be written down or sketched or painted. Second: once you put a few of your favorite goals or ideas, look across ALL the areas of your life and picture each: "What do I want this area to look like?" For example, if I want my business to grow and plan extra effort there, what about my family in a meantime? What about Tai Chi Cha classes or spiritual enlightenment? What about the old barn, my plan of herd of goats or gardening? To me, that's where the plain dreaming morphs into actual planning, when you start to actually fit it together. Or see how it doesn't fit. Don't cross anything out but... If you cannot imagine yourself with your dreams painted in a picture, if you have to paint several different "you" in different pictures, this calls for inspection. There is one You. If you plan double life bouncing in opposite directions at once, that's what you'll get. You wouldn't get very far driving a car like that... For me - there are usually quite few things I want but they stick out like sore thumb out from the rest. Well, the trip to Peru will wait till 2011 but the Tai Chi Cha will work well in a barn with goats picking on the hemp pants. The last thing left to be done is to sketch rough gradient phases leading to end year goal. It can be calendar quarters, seasons - simple concepts of your goals in time and space. Most important - have fun. It's your plan, it's your goal, don't give it away! Then it will happen. Happy New Year 2009! Alina and Bob, owners

food have also been presented. On the other hand, vegetarianism, which
has many levels, shall be defined here in broad terms, and that is the
edible fruits and vegetables. For some people, they learned and practiced organic food lifestyle first before becoming vegetarian. For others, they took the vegetarian road first before learning and being organic food consumer. Of course, there are also those who only consider themselves as vegetarian or simply into organic food lifestyle, whichever. They may be conscious of categorizing themselves or simply not aware of it. Vegetarian consciousness has been more identified with spirituality. This consciousness has been as old as the Eastern Civilization. It is a discipline in attaining Oneness with the Divine or Yoga. Yogis and meditators believe that the physical body, being the temple of the soul, must be clean and therefore has to be purified. Being vegetarian is one way of purifying the body because vegetables eliminate physical wastes and toxins in the physical body. Scientific researches have already presented a lot of healing and cleansing properties of vegetables. An example is the way vegetable fibers do in eliminating wastes. Organic food awareness, for its part, has been greatly brought about by the harmful effects of artificial and commercial food production. It is actually in advocacy stage as this caters only to a niche market Although it was a natural thing to consume natural food in the pre-historic age until the dawn of commercial production, this awareness was eventually replaced when the need for mass production arose. Therefore, while organic food awareness seems to be much older, the awareness dissipation caused by modernization has made it something new for the present age. People who are becoming more aware of organic food consumption are indeed in the process of going back, of communing with nature and be at one with it. They would like to be as healthy as the people who once set their feet on earth. With the way cancer and other diseases are shortening the lifespan of people, organic food consumption is becoming a choice. For vegetarians, this is the same process they are discovering and doing in their life. They also would like to go back, to be home. The Vegans have for thousands of years known the benefits of eating vegetables. These same benefits are the benefits being appreciated by organic food consumers. Both are now learning from each other. http://EzineArticles.com/?Organic-Food-and-Vegetarianism---Similarities-and-Differences&id=1671066
